Peer Support Group Facilitator Training - 18-20 May 2022
Peer Hub was born in the peak of an international crisis in an old mining village on top of a little hill in County Durham. Starting-up in a global pandemic wasn't something that we ever really intended to do - how do you grow a community organisation from inside a home office? We got ourselves up and established with grit, elbow grease and a LOT of help from our friends.
Now the world is opening up again, it's been a real joy for us to start connecting with local businesses and suppliers to see what we can do in this little part of the world that we occupy. We decided to run our first by-place, in person peer support training this May, and we've teamed up with local hotel, Lumley Castle, to offer a residential venue for travelling trainees.
The 3 day Peer Support Group Facilitator training will explore the history of peer support, why peer support groups have been so important and the skills and knowledge for group facilitators to run their groups in different settings. It's a training that requires people to be present, to bring their lived experience of mental health problems and to explore the challenges of facilitating groups in environments that can be difficult or restrictive. We want our attendees to be able to take part in the training in a place where they can relax, connect with each other and connect with nature. We also wanted the accommodation to feel a little luxurious - because bringing ourselves to these types of trainings deserves little rewards and opportunities to unwind at the end of the day.
Finding Lumley Castle as a training venue really meant a lot to us. It's a landmark of our area, set in woodland and overlooking our local town, Chester-le-Street. We've chosen the late spring date to take full advantage of the outdoor spaces and - weather permitting - hope to be able to do things a little differently, and not be stuck in a training room all day!
After having spent two years delivering most of our work online, we're really looking forward to our first in person training. We hope to see you there!
